Science Fiction From Slovakia - The Science of the Stars - Gustav Reuss
How I found the book:
More googling for Slovakian Science Fiction and a bit of snooping on Science Fiction in Translation.

The Physical Book:
The cover is AI generated, and is an alien landscape with a very unbelievable skyscape of multiple, colourful planets and distance stars. Clearly science fiction, but doesn't give a clue to the age of the story or the content. The back cover is more interesting as it has a photo of the author.

The Story:
It's pretty hard to follow the story, as there are lots and lots of lengthy descriptions, some of which are great fun, especially when it comes to the sheer scale of the craft that is built to take our main character and his friends into space. There are more scientific explanations and talks amongst the crew. And like a lot of science fiction from this time. It's more about the author sharing their knowledge of the universe and physics and less about writing a good story. Weirdly I really like more modern books that are written by astronomers, or astronauts or physicists. But when it's over 150 years old. They are just a bit lacking in plot, story, and characters. But it's a bit of fun to read.
