Luxembourg - Ralph 124C 41+ - Hugo Gernsback
So I came across this book after a customer of mine had visited Luxembourg and that made me think about science fiction books from this small European country that rarely gets mentioned outside of the Euro-vision competition. Anyway, upon googling Science Fiction authors from Luxembourg I discovered Hugo Gernsback is from Luxembourg! I don't even know who Hugo Gernsback is! Turns out the Hugo award for science fiction and fantasy books are named after HUGO Gernsback! I had assumed, wrongly, that they were named after Victor Hugo! So this was instantly ordered and not long after it was received in the post. When the book arrived I posted my assumption and discovery of the book, authored by the award's namesake on the Science Fiction Book Club Facebook and it turns out it was pretty much 50/50 who knew which Hugo the Awards are named after.
WEIRD! But interestingly the spaceship featured on the cover is bazaar and clearly a proper old school science fiction book due to the flying saucer shape and external tension ropes.
The Story:
The story is a little loose and so incredibly patronising to women. Basically Ralph is a super genius and saves a father and his daughter and then later on the daughter is so grateful she travels to meet Ralph. They start courting and Ralph takes his new girlfriend on increasingly dull (although they seem to think the dates are fantastic)
