Northern Ireland - Inish Carraig - Jo Zebedee
The Physical Book: Looking at the cover of this book, and it's title and it's author. I would never have picked this out from a book shop. The cover is a little bleak and not the sort of artwork that would catch my eye. I only recently realised the cover is a picture of the famous Belfast port. The title didn't give a clue to the subject or theme of the book and I'd never heard of Jo Zebedee before. So it's thanks to my undertaking of reading more from authors around the world that lead to multiple recommendations of this book.
I know I didn't have to split up Great Britain into the four home countries, but it is good fun to split them up and slightly lengthen my project.
The Story: The book revolves around two Alien races coming to earth, one is a wolf-like race who are the typical warrior, aggressive type. The other race of Aliens are a bug like race who are more diplomatic and engineering types. Having the aliens painted with such stereotypical race wide traits felt a little lazy and unimaginative. The book also fell into one of my pet hates when it comes to Aliens. Nudity. How can an Alien race create interstellar spaceships, but didn't invent trousers or pockets or uniforms. However the final quarter of the book was much more tense and engaging and I really enjoyed these scenes and was left with a good impression of the book.
