England - The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
It doesn't get more English than The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy. The story opens with an Englishman in his dressing gown, protecting his castle, well his cottage, from bureaucratic government officials.
If you haven't read this book, then strap in and be prepared for absurdity that only an eccentric rock and roll science fiction author can deliver
Everything about this book screams it's English heritage and culture, from not being able to get a decent cup of tea, to dealing with queuing etiquette. I'm a huge fan of Douglas Adams and the trilogy of five books that this grew into. This is a funny book full of slapstick silliness, clever satire, puns, profanities, sarcasm and pretty much every type of humour going. The science fiction side of the book makes the perfect setting to marry so many ideas and thoughts and I LOVE IT!
